The PowerHouse training tour has started with a resounding success on Friday, the 27th of June 2025, where about 8 chess players attended, interacted with CM Simphiwe "Snow" Dlamini, had an introductory session and played a simultaneous and here is what you still need to know about the tour.
What is the training Tour?
The tour is a noble initiative started by PowerHouse Chess Club. It is an activity that aims to capacitate chess players, to improve their chess skills and overall quality play of their games. It is also in line with the club’s objective 3 which is “To organize training sessions, workshops, and tournaments at local, regional, and national levels”. The Shiselweni region, Nhlangano town is the first stop, with more places to come.

Moreover, this tour serves as a foundational build up to an upcoming tournament to be hosted by PowerHouse Chess Club. With the aim to attract competitive players from other regions and helping our tour participants to gauge themselves against other players. This activity is a need and will ensure that a display of high quality, skilful play of interesting games earmarks the tournament. The Tournament is schedule to take place in August, 2nd week.
Worth mentioning is that the training tour has attracted players outside the Shiselweni region and means will be made to ensure every chess enthusiast gets a chance to receive the training (be on the lookout). In the meantime, players (especially female players) in the region are encouraged to register and attend the tour. The sessions will be held on Fridays at 1:30pm to 4:30pm in Nhlangano, Youth Centre and Saturdays at 11:00am to 2:00pm in Hlatikulu, Sports Centre. This shall go on up until the end of July.

— Getting to know the instructor and the participants. What to expect going forward with the training.
🔹 Session 2 (Basic Opening Principles & Middle Game Plans)
— Understand how to start strong and build ideas for the middle game.
🔹 Session 3 (Middle Game Planning & Tactical Play)
— Learn how to navigate the middle game with tactics and solid strategies.
🔹 Session 4 (Transitioning to the Endgame & Endgame Principles)
— Know how to close out a game, basic endgame theory, and practical plans.
The participation fee is E210 as full package.
